American Military Operation on Caracas Raises Anxieties of Potential Greenland Takeover.

The latest American strike in the South American nation and the detention of its leader have renewed worry regarding America's ambitions on Greenland. Members of the ex-president's base have reportedly focused on the resource-rich landmass in the wake of the operations in the southern hemisphere.

Inflammatory Messages and Diplomatic Backlash

Only a short time following the initiation of the Caracas campaign, a well-known right-wing commentator, who is married to a high-ranking White House aide, posted a suggestive map. The graphic depicted Greenland covered in the stars and stripes, accompanied by single-word message: "SOON."

This blatant suggestion to absorb the mineral-rich region, which is a member of the North Atlantic alliance, provoked immediate and strong condemnation from Denmark's representatives.

"We are close allies and should keep cooperate as such. American security is also the Arctic's and Denmark’s security," declared the Danish ambassador to the United States. "Our nation and the US collaborate to ensure security in the North."

The diplomat further highlighted that the kingdom had significantly increased its defence spending recently, allocating a large amount specifically for Arctic and North Atlantic security. "Furthermore, we demand complete respect for the sovereign borders of the our realm," he emphasized.

Administrative Appointments and Geopolitical Goals

The tensions were further exacerbated by the recent naming of a Southern governor as a special envoy to Greenland. The appointee had publicly expressed gratitude to the commander-in-chief, stating it was an "honour" to serve in a unpaid capacity to "make Greenland a part of the US."

Following the military action in Venezuela, this representative commended the president's decisive move, connecting it to the wider "fight against narcotics."

Since assuming office, the American leader has consistently unnerved European allies with his expressed interest in Greenland. The island is viewed as vitally important for national security and future resource extraction. It currently hosts the most northerly US air base.

Refusing to Rule Out Military Action

In a significant media interview, the president refused to exclude the resorting to military force to gain control of Greenland. This stance comes during growing global rivalry in the polar region. "I don't rule it out. I don't say I'm going to do it, but I don't rule out anything... We need Greenland very badly," he stated.

He described Greenland as having a "very small amount of people, which we’ll take care of, and we’ll value them... But we need that for global security."

Growing Friction and Indigenous Resistance

In reaction to this persistent "drumbeat" of intent, Danish security agency took the extraordinary step last month of labelling the United States as a "security risk."

The prime ministers of both Greenland issued a joint and stern statement: "We have said it very clearly before. Now we say it again... You must not take over other countries."

Surveys in Greenland shows a complex sentiment. While a vast majority of the island's residents seek independence from Denmark, there is also scant desire to become part of the United States. The island has had the legal right to seek sovereignty for many years.

Analyst View: A Plausible Threat?

Some analysts are now re-evaluating the possibility of such a action. One policy director specializing in military analysis admitted she had once dismissed the rhetoric but was "now not so sure."

"It wouldn't be that hard for the US to station a couple hundred or a couple thousand soldiers inside of Greenland, and it's not clear to me who could intervene about it," she observed.
